Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is the scientific manipulation of soft body tissues, muscle, connective tissue, tendons, and ligaments. The basic philosophy of massage therapy embraces the concept of vis Medicatrix Naturae, which means “aiding the ability of the body to heal itself.”

Generally, massage is delivered to improve the flow of blood and lymph (fluid in lymph glands, part of the immune system), to reduce muscular tension or flaccidity, affect the nervous system through stimulation or sedation, and enhance tissue healing.

People seek massage therapy for a variety of reasons – to reduce stress and anxiety, relax muscles, rehabilitate injuries, reduce pain, and promote overall health and wellness.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a science that deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the face, hands, and feet that correspond to all of the organs, glands, and parts of the body. Reflexology is not massage but a unique method of using the thumb and fingers on these reflex areas. Reflexology in the East can be traced from India to China than to Japan.

Zone Theory, created by Dr. William Fitzgerald, is the foundation of Foot Reflexology and an understanding of the Zones as a system for organizing relationships between the body and the reflexes. This is essential to reflexology and its applications.

Manipulating specific reflexes removes stress, activating a response in the body to enable the blockages to be released by a physiological change in the body. With stress removed and circulation enhanced, the body is allowed to return to a state of homeostasis: the ‘automatic’ process that the body incorporates to bring it back to the ‘normal state.

Reiki

Several ancient cultures believed that energy flows through our bodies, affecting our well-being on many levels. Scientific research studies have shown that imbalances, disruptions, or blockages of these energy flows may lead to physical, emotional, or mental illnesses. The healing modality Reiki attempts to balance and heal these energy flow deficiencies, leading to improved health and well-being.

“Rei” means “Universal” and “ki” (“chi” in Chinese) means “Life Force Energy”. Reiki is the name given to a system of relaxation and natural healing for the body and mind by Dr. Mikao Usui, who lived in Japan from 1865 to 1926.

Reiki is a system of subtle energy healing using either laying on of hands or distance healing techniques. The Reiki practitioner received a series of “attunements” (by one or more Reiki Masters) which enable the practitioner to pass subtle energies through the hands.

Reiki is a healing modality that balances the recipient’s biofield and strengthens the body’s ability to heal itself. Reiki can be used to support and complement conventional medical interventions. Please note that Reiki is not a replacement for any prescribed medical interventions or medications.

Warm Bamboo
Therapeutic Massage

Mu-Xing Therapy or Bamboo-fusion is a unique wood-based treatment utilizing heated bamboo to the arms, hands, back, legs, feet, and face. Bamboo has been used with a massage around the world to promote health and well-being. Using these warm tools and a variety of massage strokes address ischemic tissue and promote a deep sense of overall wellbeing. The warmth and natural properties of the tools promote deep relaxation and melt muscular tension.

The therapist can easily palpate, find tension, and dissolve knots and trigger points. They are used to knead and stretch muscle and fascia in all directions. The massage can go as light or as deep as necessary.

Massage oil is used with the bamboo. The warmth brings relaxation in a shorter time as it quickly penetrates to relax the muscles. The bamboo is easily cleaned and sanitized with antibacterial wipes.

Benefits of Warm Bamboo

The heat adds a different type of sensory stimulation to a traditional massage but also has physiological effects that can be healing. There are many benefits to using heat on the body during the massage. The heat has been used for ages to offer relief from sore, stiff muscles as well as stress.

Combining a heated protocol with a full body massage provides a very healing and effective experience. The heat also expands blood vessels, which encourages blood flow throughout the body. It has a sedative effect that can help relieve chronic pain, reduce stress and promote deep relaxation.
